When I spoke to them they told me that it was the L500 (I knew it was the 500 series just wasn't sure if it was the R, L or XL ) in the Hentor so I ordered it and sure enough that was the sound. Then I realized that there are 2 Bill Lawrence companies, the real one is Bill and Becky's Wilde pickups. But be careful.I remember being so knocked out by this pickup that I ordered one from Bill Lawrence USA and was dissapointed because it sounded like total crap. I know because I had that guitar in my hands for a was the Bill Lawrence L500. That guitar sounded fantastic, the bridge pickup sounded fantastic! Very snarly and hot but still very clear. (in reference to Limelight he says."He used the hentor sportscaster (strat partscaster) on the album. Anyway he tells a story (quoted below) about how he was in possession of the Hentor and he knows for a fact it was used on that track. He did a bunch of luthier work for Alex during that time and since. There is a fellow that regularly posts on the mylespaul forum named Freddy G. This had Bill Lawrence L500 Humbuckers (Gibson used these for a period I believe) Anyway it is a fairly hot humbucker. The black strat you are referring to is the Hentor Sportscaster (a nickname he made up for it, loosely translated to mean spare parts stratocaster) I referred to it in an earlier post. And it is for v11 Firmware, so not too old. One of them is by pima1234, he is a regular contributor to the forum and the various Rush threads that crop up here, I'd start with that one. At least one of these was pretty close with my Alex Lifeson Axcess. I'm not able to get to my Axe FX, but there are 2 different Limelight patches on Axe Change ATM. If you give it a listen, you'll hear that it is at least double tracked with a very clean guitar with some chorus this clean becomes the main sound during the chorus sections. Jammit sells Limelight so you can get an isolated track, there are some other YT vids out there that are the isolated guitar. He is playing a Black ES-335 (or 345) in the Tom Sawyer video, but I always heard he played the Howard Roberts Fusion on most of the track, and that is what he plays it on in the Exit Stage Left video. He used the Loft 440 for flanging, I've got a couple of them, and they are dead on for the solo flanging. Amps were probably hiwatt DR103 and the Marshall Club Country 4140, which is similar to a twin reverb. At this time his strats usually had a PAF style pickup. Looks like it has an early floyd rose on the strat though. ![]() Looking at the video, black pickups on a black pick guard, coupled with grainy video, I can't tell what the pickups are. In the music video Alex is playing a black strat, oddly enough with a maple fretboard, which he did not use for long at all, so this is an oddball guitar for him.
